Asking a bit much....

I had been toying with the idea of starting this blog for a little. To be honest I'm probably a little more passionate about this than web2.o (see other blog) and today I was finally pushed over the edge.

Yesterday on the ABC's Asia Pacific Focus I saw a short interview with Muhammad Yunus. He was talking about the idea of social business which could be an entire post on its own. I decided to follow this up and today went to a bookstore (which shall remain nameless) to find his book 'Creating a World Without Poverty'. It wasn't on the shelves but I knew they could order it in because it was on the their website. When I told the 'customer service officer' the title of the book she said "don't you think you're asking a bit much?" At first I thought she was being rude about the fact that she had to look it up on the computer and then I realised she was talking about the title...

And that was it... the rage came bubbling up... (all inside my head of course, in reality I calmly placed my order and said I looked forward to picking it up when it arrives)...No I do not think it is too much to ask and obviously Mr Yunus does not think it is too much to ask...

Perhaps this is one of the many problems. There are not enough people willing to stand up and say that this (insert injustice here -poverty, discrimination, exploitation...etc) is not acceptable, that something can and must be done. There are too many people that are so comfortable in their own little worlds they are blind to what is around them. There are too many people that say the problem is too big, or its always been this way, it can not be changed, there is nothing little me can do...

I cannot accept this in my own life. I want to be able to do my bit towards creating a world without poverty and other social injustices. It is not too much to ask.
