The End of Charity

I came across a review of The End of Charity: Time for Social Enterprise by Nic Frances and thought that I would chase it up and have a read, especially after having read Creating a World Without Poverty (Muhammad Yunus). The idea of social enterprise as a way of addressing some of the big issues such as poverty, inequality and environmental sustainability seems to be becoming increasingly popular.

A lot of the discussion centres around using business models to achieve 'profit' in areas other than dollar terms. It uses the idea of corporate social responsibility but also the way that charity/welfare/environmental organisations can have greater impact by exploring social enterprise and corporate partnerships. Frances has some interesting things to say. Here is a link to a short radio interview on the ABC and when I manage to get the book I'll post some further thoughts.
