International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

O.k so while I'm on the bandwagon of 'world awareness days' today is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. For Blog Action Day I shared my story about one of the reasons I'm so passionate about the issue of poverty, so today I thought I would go for something more practical.

How can you (and I) contribute to the eradication of poverty?

First, go to the Hunger Site and click today and every other day that you jump online to write or peruse blogs.

Now read 88 Ways to DO Something About Poverty Right Now from the Blog Action Day blog. Choose something from the list or make up your own action and do it in the next few days. Choose something that is doable, and give yourself a time limit. Remember it does not have to involve money and it doesn't have to be something huge. It is often our feeling that the problem is too big for us to make a difference that stops us from acting at all.

What am I going to do? I've been hearing a lot about Kiva and microfinance loans. So I'm going to investigate this further, find an appropriate organisation for me here in Australia and contribute to a loan. I'll let you know how I go.

If you've got other suggestions, feel free to post a comment.
