What is your passion?

I've written a few posts about my passion for working in developing countries, and for helping those in vulnerable positions, especially children. I've also talked about the frustration of having the desire to do something big but the distractions and bits of 'life' that get in the way.

If you didn't have to worry about money, mortgage, bills, security, family and the list goes on..., what would you do?

  1. I would hand in my resignation at work, sell the house and contents and head back to Cambodia, where my heart is.I'd love to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable Khmer children.

  2. My interests are evenly divided into two areas: writing and politics.

I've always loved writing. I don't care if it's an essay, a blog post, or a short story. I have a talent with words, and if I wasn't so cynical, I would pursue a career as a novelist. If I no longer had to worry about money, I would do my best to indulge in this dream. I have several awesome ideas for a medieval fantasy book, and even more for a steampunk one.

My other interest is politics; even if I didn't have to worry about money. I'm looking to major in Political Science, and while I'm sure this is very idealistic on my part, I would like to work for the greater good of our own country via this avenue.

Now that I think about it, if money were not an obstacle, I would probably pursue both. I would squirm my way up the political ladder, and once firmly established (and well-known hopefully) I would use my status to help me get my books published. I would no doubt dabble in fantasy, but with power comes responsibility, and I would feel behooved to author several books on subjects which are very pertinent to our country at this time.
